4-Day Salt Lake Temple Open House Journey of Faith & Heritage – Thursday-Sunday

Welcome to Salt Lake City! Guests utilizing our optional motorcoach transportation will travel to Salt Lake City today, while those making their own arrangements can meet us at our downtown hotel after 1pm. After check-in, our hospitality desk will be available to check in with tour services for your welcome packet.

This afternoon is yours to begin exploring at your own pace. Spend time discovering your family history at the FamilySearch Library, visit the Church History Museum, or simply enjoy the atmosphere surrounding Temple Square and downtown Salt Lake City and enjoy dinner on your own.

Tonight, we’ll gather to review the instructions for the weekend’s plans, learn from our great speakers about this history of this iconic temple we are here to celebrate and get to know one another better.

Today is the centerpiece of our journey, the opportunity to experience the Salt Lake Temple Open House.

More than 170 years after construction first began, this iconic temple has undergone an extraordinary renovation and preservation project. Today we’ll have the rare opportunity to enter the temple and see its beautiful interior during the Open House. Rather than rushing through this historic occasion, our schedule allows time to enjoy the experience and then linger on Temple Square afterward.

We’ll gather for lunch in the historic Joseph Smith Memorial Building, surrounded by some of the most important landmarks in Church history. You will have a meal voucher to use either a the café or beautiful Roof Restaurant.

This afternoon, we’ll continue discovering the stories of early Salt Lake City as we visit the Beehive House and Lion House, closely associated with Brigham Young and his family. As we explore downtown, we’ll gain greater appreciation for the pioneers who transformed this once-isolated valley into their new home.

Later, we’ll make our way to Ensign Peak, where early Church leaders surveyed the Salt Lake Valley shortly after the pioneers arrived in 1847. Those who would like can make the walk toward the summit, while an alternate experience can be provided for those who prefer not to hike.

Tonight enjoy free time downtown. Browse the shops at City Creek Center, return to Temple Square, or simply relax and enjoy Salt Lake City at your own pace.

After breakfast, we’ll discover some of Salt Lake City’s most fascinating stories during a guided visit to the Salt Lake City Cemetery. This isn’t simply a cemetery visit, it is a walk through Church and Utah history.

As we make our way through this peaceful hillside setting, we’ll hear stories of prophets, Church leaders, pioneers and other notable individuals who helped shape the history of the Church and the American West. It is a wonderfully personal way to connect names we’ve known with the lives and stories behind them.

From here, we’ll travel to This Is the Place Heritage Park, located near the mouth of Emigration Canyon, the route followed by the first pioneer company as it entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.

We’ll enjoy lunch followed by a guided introduction to the park, bringing pioneer history to life through its historic buildings, demonstrations and stories. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore the park according to your own interests.

We’ll return to our hotel later this afternoon with time to relax and enjoy dinner on your own.

Tonight is another highlight of our weekend as we gather for a special speaker event created especially for our Open House guests. Through stories of the Salt Lake Temple, its pioneers, history, symbolism and remarkable renovation, we’ll add another layer of understanding to what we’ve experienced during our time together.

Enjoy breakfast at our hotel before one final Salt Lake City experience.

This morning we’ll close our tour with a heartfelt performance at the live Sunday morning broadcast of Music & the Spoken Word with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. For generations, this beloved broadcast has shared music and messages of hope from Salt Lake City with audiences around the world, making it a fitting conclusion to our weekend.

An opportunity to attend a local sacrament meeting may also be offered as schedules are available.

Following our morning activities, we’ll return to the hotel to check out and say goodbye to new friends. Guests traveling with our optional transportation will board the motorcoach for the journey home to the St. George or Idaho Falls area, while those with independent arrangements will depart at their leisure.

We return home having done much more than tour Salt Lake City. We’ve walked through history, entered the Salt Lake Temple during a once-in-a-generation Open House, heard the stories of those who came before us and gathered together in a place central to the heritage of the Church.
