You know how it is when you have really high expectations for something? There’s nothing more disappointing than when the experience doesn’t quite live up to the hype.
Going into our August England, Spain and France cruise, I was prepared for the total solar eclipse at sea to blow my mind. And honestly—it did! But what I wasn’t prepared for was just how many other moments on this cruise would compete with the eclipse for the title of “favorite experience.”
There were far too many highlights to cover them all, but this trip reminded me of a few things that make our MMET hosted cruise tours so different.
At MMET, we have a pretty firm rule about arriving at a cruise departure city one or two days before the ship sails. Flight delays happen, luggage gets lost and connections get missed. Why take the chance of literally watching your ship sail away without you?
But we don’t want those days to simply be “insurance days.” We turn them into part of the vacation!
On many of our cruise tours, the pre-cruise experience is already included in the advertised tour price. Because we’re often able to secure special group cruise rates, we can build a more complete program—including hotels, sightseeing and experiences before embarkation—while still offering tremendous overall value.
So instead of asking, “Should I spend the extra money on the pre-tour?” you’ve already got it.
Arrive early. See more. Worry less. That’s a win!
This cruise reminded me again just how much our special guest hosts add to a trip.
Yes, you can take a cruise on your own. But traveling with someone who can teach you, inspire you, make you think—and make you laugh—adds another dimension to an already amazing vacation.
Our hosts bring their personalities, knowledge and perspectives along for the journey, and some of my favorite moments happen when we’re simply together as a group.

We leave the ship together, have transportation waiting, use excellent local guides and build our days to help you get the most bang for your buck—and your limited hours in port.
Our goal is simple: See the best things there are to see while we’re there!
Will we occasionally walk your legs off? Yes. Absolutely.
That’s why I always encourage travelers to ask about the physical demands of an excursion before booking. Some days are easy sightseeing days; others are full, active days. Knowing what to expect helps you choose the experience that’s right for you.
This may have been my biggest takeaway from the entire cruise.
We can choose a great ship. We can build an incredible itinerary. We can bring wonderful hosts, arrange terrific guides and plan memorable excursions.
But YOU bring the magic.
The friendships, laughter, conversations, kindness and shared experiences among our travelers are what turn a great vacation into something much more meaningful.
To everyone who traveled with us through England, Spain and France this August—thank you! You were part of what made this trip so special.
And yes, standing together on the deck of a ship at sea and watching the sky change during a total solar eclipse was pretty spectacular.
But in the end, it was just one incredible moment among many.
