Depart the US and arrive Munich

Today you will depart your home cities and travel overnight to begin your tour in Germany.  Welcome to Munich! Your journey begins as you arrive in the vibrant city of Munich, Germany’s “Secret Capital.” After meeting our tour director at the airport, we’ll embark on a panoramic tour of the city to get acquainted with its highlights. Following a lunch stop, check into your hotel for a much-needed rest. This evening, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner, providing the perfect opportunity to meet fellow travelers and discuss the exciting adventures ahead.

Tour Munich and Neuschwanstein Castle

This morning, we delve into Munich’s regal past, visiting the magnificent Nymphenburg Palace and the Munich Residenz, home to Bavarian kings for centuries.  In the afternoon, we travel into the Bavarian hills to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, a magical fairy-tale structure that inspired Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle. A guided tour will reveal the rich history and architectural splendor of this iconic site. In the evening, we return to Munich for a relaxing dinner at a traditional beer garden, savoring authentic Bavarian cuisine..

Munich to Salzburg

This morning, we board a scenic train to Salzburg, Austria (approx. 2 hours). After checking into our hotel, we’ll explore the charming Old Town of Salzburg. Walk through the lush Mirabell Gardens, visit Salzburg Cathedral, and admire the baroque splendor of the city’s architecture. Tonight, we’ll enjoy a delicious Austrian dinner at a cozy local restaurant.

Salzburg and "The Sound of Music" sites

Today the hills will come alive with “The Sound of Music”.  After breakfast we begin to immerse ourselves in the magic of “The Sound of Music” with a guided tour of famous filming locations, including the Mirabell Gardens, Leopoldskron Palace, Hellbrunn Palace, and the gazebo from the beloved “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” scene. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to explore Salzburg’s rich history. Consider visiting Mozart’s Birthplace or ascend to Hohensalzburg Fortress for breathtaking city views. Tonight, we’ll be treated to an unforgettable classical concert dinner show.

Salzburg to Mondsee and Lake District

Today, we continue our tour of "The Sound of Music" locations with a visit to Mondsee, where the wedding scene was filmed at St. Michael’s Church. From there, we’ll venture into the picturesque Salzkammergut Lake District. Explore the beautiful Lake Wolfgang and the quaint village of St. Gilgen before returning to Salzburg for a relaxing evening.

Berchtesgaden

We head into the Bavarian Alps today for a historical visit to the Eagle’s Nest, followed by an adventurous tour of the Salt Mines. The afternoon offers more stunning mountain views before we return to Salzburg for dinner in one of its many traditional restaurants.

Salzburg to Innsbruck    

After breakfast, we depart Salzburg and journey to Innsbruck, a charming city set in the heart of the Austrian Alps (approximately a 2-hour drive).  Upon arrival, we’ll begin our exploration of Innsbruck’s historic highlights. Our first stop is the Golden Roof, a landmark adorned with over 2,500 gilded tiles, where we’ll learn about the city’s medieval and imperial past. Next, we’ll visit the Hofburg Palace, a former imperial residence that showcases stunning architecture and offers a glimpse into Austria’s royal heritage, all set against a backdrop of breathtaking alpine views.  Evening at Leisure: The evening is yours to enjoy Innsbruck’s enchanting Old Town with its quaint streets and boutique shops, or to relax at your hotel, soaking in the tranquility of the mountains surrounding this picturesque city

Innsbruck to Vienna

Today, after breakfast, we depart for the final destination on our tour: the Renaissance city of Vienna. On our journey, we’ll pass through the breathtaking landscapes of the Austrian Alps, taking in their majestic peaks and valleys. Midday, we’ll pause for a relaxing lunch break in a charming Austrian town, sampling local flavors. 

Upon arrival in Vienna, we’ll set off on a guided walking tour to immerse ourselves in the city’s rich history and elegance. Our first stop is St. Stephen’s Cathedral — an iconic Gothic masterpiece and symbol of Vienna. As we stroll through the bustling Graben and Kohlmarkt shopping streets, you’ll feel the vibrant energy of Viennese life. We’ll also admire the Vienna State Opera House, renowned as one of the most prestigious opera venues in the world. Tonight, enjoy Vienna at your leisure. Take this time to explore the city’s cultural gems, relax in a traditional café, or perhaps try one of Vienna’s renowned restaurants.

Vienna

Today, we’ll dive deeper into the wonders of Vienna, with the highlight being a visit to Schönbrunn Palace. Our tour will take us through the palace’s opulent state rooms and apartments, where we’ll gain insight into the lives and legacy of the Hapsburg family. Afterward, we’ll wander through the meticulously manicured gardens, pausing at the Neptune Fountain and the Gloriette for sweeping views of Vienna and the palace grounds.  This evening, we’ll celebrate one of Vienna’s most celebrated historical figures with a Mozart dinner concert. Indulge in a traditional three-course Viennese meal, followed by an enchanting performance by an orchestra in period costumes. They’ll play selections from Mozart’s beloved operas and symphonies, creating a magical, immersive experience that captures the spirit of Vienna’s musical heritage.  A perfect way to bid farewell to this extraordinary city!
