Cruise with Getaway Guru®, Larry Gelwix

Star Clippers is perfect for mobile, active lifestyle guests of all ages…those with “adventure in their hearts”, regardless of age. Yes, this is a “tall ship” with sails, but it is also a modern ship with propeller motors and all the amenities for smooth sailing as we follow the coastlines of Greece, Turkey, and the Northern Cyclades Islands.  If you want a memorable trip of a lifetime that is unique, experiential, culturally immersive, includes easy and energetic adventures and activity, with Larry Gelwix, Getaway Guru® as your personal host and tour guide, then this is the trip for you.

ROMANCE THE WIND ABOARD A TALL SHIP - “The Star Flyer is as fleet as the wind and as graceful as a swan.”

There are few adventures more thrilling than sailing aboard a “tall ship”.  Anyone who has experienced it can tell you ― there’s a moment when you feel the wind catching the sails, and suddenly you’re flying.  This is a true clipper ship reflecting her proud heritage in every inch of her polished brass and gleaming brightwork. Step aboard this unique vessel and discover a new age of sailing, where the traditions of the past are happily married to the comforts and amenities of the present day. Star Flyer is a modern cruise ship in every way, with four masts, 16 sails, and motor propellers too, created for luxury-loving passengers who also love the traditions and romance of the legendary era of sailing ships. Star Flyer is 360 feet long (longer than a football field!) and carries just 170 guests in pampered comfort.

Life aboard is blissfully relaxed, much like traveling on a private yacht. You’ll never feel confined on Star Flyer. The ship offers spacious accommodations and expansive teak decks with ample space and not one, but two swimming pools. In fact, you’ll find that these ships offer more outdoor space per passenger than most conventional cruise ships.

The décor of Star Flyer is reminiscent of the grand age of sailing. Antique prints and paintings of famous sailing ships please the eye, while teak and gleaming mahogany rails are richly reminiscent of Star Clippers’ proud nautical heritage.

The Star Flyer features open-seating dining in an elegantly appointed dining room, a convivial indoor-outdoor Tropical Bar and Piano Bar, and an Edwardian style library where a Belle Époque fireplace glows with a warmth that reflects the friendliness and enthusiasm of Star Flyer’s hospitable officers and crew.

Day 1: Sept. 23

Athens, Greece

Walking in the shadow of the Acropolis in the Agora, you can almost hear the voices of Plato, Socrates and Aristotle arguing about who was the greatest philosopher. Ancient Athens, the birthplace of democracy and epicenter of western civilization, is a city for all eternity.

Day 2: Sept. 24

Sailing the Aegean Sea

Each Star Clippers ship offers a traditional and elegant way to see the world. Feel the wind fill the sails and gently carry you from one gorgeous destination to the next. During your time on board, you can choose to relax on a sun lounger or cool off in one of the pools on the top deck, while more adventurous passengers may enjoy the opportunity to climb the rigging or even have a go at steering the ship. Alternatively, you can wander the interior areas of the ship and discover relaxing lounges, and a peaceful library.

Day 3: Sept. 25

Morning sailing through the Samos Strait. Afternoon arrival at Kusadasi, Turkey for visit to Ephesus.

Kusadasi is a popular Turkish port of call for cruise ships, as not only is it a bustling resort town full of shops, bars and restaurants, but it is also the main access point for the famous archeological site at Ephesus. Extensive excavations have revealed an ancient city through which visitors can now wander and observe the wonders of a bygone civilisation. Near Kusadasi, on Turkey's turquoise coast, we make a stop at Camlimani, a small pellucid bay. Swim at the beach, snorkel, stroll the pine scented grounds, or have a run at the rides in the aquapark.

Day 4: Sept. 26

Patmos, Greece

This serene island is known as the site of the apocalyptic revelations of St. John the Divine, The cave where he is said to have lived is now the site of the Monastery of the Apocalypse. It houses priceless icons and manuscripts in its treasury.

Day 5: Sept. 27

Amorgos, Greece

Amorgós’ cliff-clinging monastery of Hozoviotissas has one of the most spectacular locations of any in Greece. Only a few monks live in the cavernous 50-room monastery, but the view from their terrace aerie might make you think they had all flown to heaven from this very spot.

Day 6: Sept. 28

Mykonos, Greece

One of the most cosmopolitan of all the Greek Islands, Mykonos is a contrast of rocky hills and beautiful beaches. Hora, the capital, spreads around a colourful harbour, a popular meeting place, overlooked by a variety of tavernas, in which fishing boats nestle side by side with luxury yachts.

Day 7: Sept. 29

Spetses, Greece

Spetses, an island boasting a long naval tradition, is famous for its significant contribution to the 1821 War of Independence. Take a romantic trip around the island in horse-drawn carriages and admire the grand mansions adorning the narrow cobbled streets of the island. Due to it's rich history there are many attractions worthy of a visit including museums, churches and cathedrals. There are also many beautiful beaches within easy reach where you can soak up the sun or take part in the water sports on offer.

Day 8: Sept. 30
