Lion, often sleeping during the day are often sighted alert and active at night, and even on occasion, the more elusive leopard.  In addition, an exciting tree planting exercise is lined up for you today, giving you an opportunity to not only contribute to environmental conservation but also for you to leave behind your footprints in Africa.

As Kenya’s first and largest rhino sanctuary, sightings of both black and white rhinos are almost guaranteed, while plentiful waterbuck, warthog, zebra, gazelle and buffalo graze the shoreline. Echoing to the haunting cries of the numerous fish eagles, this is also the park in which you have the best chance of seeing a leopard.

One of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves, the Maasai Mara holds a diverse concentration of wildlife and is famous for the abundance of big cats, lion, leopard, cheetah and the great wildebeest migration. It is also home to the Maasai people, well known for their distinctive custom and dress.  You are met on arrival by the camp staff and settle in to your tented accommodations. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Enjoy a morning game drive or you may choose a optional hot air balloon safari, a highlight for anyone!  Later this morning we will visit a local Maasai village to observe the tribe’s way of life and learn about its culture and beliefs. They are a proud warrior tribe whose lives and culture revolve around herding cattle. You will get a brief glimpse into the hardworking lives of the women and girls, who are responsible for all of the domestic tasks, as well as milking cows and often travelling extensive distances to collect water. Men and boys focus their attention on the care of their cattle, hunting for food and protecting the community. The Maasai are known for their colorful traditional dress and beaded adornments.  This afternoon enjoy lunch at the lodge and an afternoon game drive. The drama of the Mara is never ending, the cycle of life and death is seemingly endless. It is this sheer magnetism that has captivated all of us and will captivate you. Return to camp, at the end of the day, for a farewell dinner. Ponder the wonder that is Africa, as the night and its inhabitants settle around you.

Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast the group will participate in a special farewell tree-planting ceremony to have a lasting conservation legacy that you will leave behind.   We then return to Nairobi and enjoy lunch at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden.  The afternoon continues with a drive through the residential area of Langata to the Giraffe Center, situated in a rare indigenous forest on Nairobi’s western boundary. The Center is located on the estate of Betty Leslie-Melville's Giraffe Manor and is the headquarters for the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife and the "home" of Daisy, the famous Rothschild giraffe and her relatives.

A specially designed observation platform offers you the opportunity to feed the full grown giraffe from your own hands. It’s an experience you won’t forget. Be sure to bring your camera for some superb photographic opportunities.

Our last stop will be to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for a special evening visit open to foster parents only. Overseen by Angela Sheldrick, daughter of the late Dame Daphne and David Sheldrick, the pioneering Orphan's Project has achieved world-wide acclaim through its hugely successful elephant and rhino rescue and rehabilitation program.
