Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, we will be transferred by our 4x4 expedition vehicles to Tarangire, one of Tanzania's largest national parks.  This area is best known for its large elephant population and majestic baobab trees that dwarf the animals that feed beneath them.  The park is dissected by the Tarangie River which provides the only permanent water supply in the area.  During the dry season, animals migrate to Tarangire from Manyara National Park giving it the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem.  Other wildlife of interest includes the stately fringe-eared oryx and the long-necked gerenuk.

After game viewing and lunch we continue to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and our reserved accommodations that sits on the rim of the magnificent crater, designed to blend completely into the landscape.

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the stunning landscape of Ngorongoro Crater combined with its spectacular wildlife is one of the greatest nature wonders of the planet.  Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forest, saltpans, a fresh water lake and a glorious variety of birdlife.

We will enjoy our picnic on the crater floor before heading back up to the lodge.  This afternoon we will meet the lodges head chef and participate in a Tanzania cooking demonstration.  You will see blank rhinos, jackals, spotted hyena, lions, and their prey of wildebeest, water buffalo, and various gazelle species. Birding is good as well. The not too common Serval cat is a bonus feature.

Once inflated you and your fellow adventurers will climb aboard your "flying basket" and begin slowly drifting up and over the trees where before you lies the magnificence and splendor of an African dawn.
