Depart the US and Arrive in London, England

We will depart the U.S. on Wednesday, July 20th for an overnight flight to London!

Welcome to London! Today we will start with a panoramic city tour before we check into our hotel.  This afternoon you will get a chance to explore the city on your own.

London

Morning sightseeing with a our local Guide will include all the famous landmarks: the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben beside the Thames River, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall’s mounted horse-guards and the Prime Minister’s Downing Street, Piccadilly Circus, and Buckingham Palace. Visit magnificent ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL and see the Changing of the Guard, if held. This afternoon we’ll visit the Tower of London and finish with a dinner cruise on the Thames. (B,D) 

London–Paris

This morning we’ll head for the railway station to board the high-speed EUROSTAR TRAIN to Paris.  Discover the world capital of chic and style with a Local Guide and admire its renowned sites: the Opéra, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysées, and more. 

Paris

This morning we’ll visit a local LDS Ward house for Sacrament meeting before we head out of town to see one of Europe’s newest temples.  The Paris temple was dedicated in 2017 and has been well received by the locals and a great blessing to the local members.  After we take that photo opportunity there we’ll continue onto the Palace of Versailles.  Once a humble hunting lodge, the Chateau de Versailles became the extravagant creation of Louis XIV which epitomized the royal decadence that tendered the French Revolution.

Paris–Lucerne, Switzerland

Today we’ll depart the City of Lights and travel into Switzerland.  The scenery today will be breathtaking as the countryside unfolds its beauty with stops along the way to enjoy.

Lucerne

Today we get to discover Lucerne with its charming Old Town feel.  We’ll enjoy a walking tour exploring the spectacular sights and cultural delights of the city.  We’ll stroll the intimate tangle of alleyways in search of impressive monuments like Chapel Bridge that spans the Reuss River, and listen to the legends that surround the oldest surviving truss bridge in the world.  We’ll see the ancient Jesuit Church and get to appreciate the tranquil atmosphere of the first Baroque church in Switzerland. This afternoon we’ll get to see the breathtaking Alps from the deck of a boat on Lake Lucerne.

Lucerne–Oberammergau

Leaving Lucerne, we will journey into the Tyrol region and settle into a beautiful winter resort town where we will stay for the next 2 nights.  Along the way, we’ll take the exciting cable car ride up the Zugsptize, Germany’s highest peak.

Oberammergau Passion Play

Today we will attend the Oberammergau Passion Play. The play, which began in 1634 and is held once every decade, reenacts the Passion of Jesus Christ—from His arrival in Jerusalem to the crucifixion and resurrection. The performance takes place over an afternoon and evening (seven hours), with an included dinner break in between. Over 2,000 performers, musicians, and stage technicians, all of whom are residents of the village, participate in the play. This experience will highlight the life of the Savior. 

Oberammergau to Neuschwanstein/Linderhof Castles - Munich

Today we’ll depart the quaint village of Oberammergau  and travel to visit Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Castles.  These were the residences of King Ludwig II of Bavaria.  An eccentric recluse, Ludwig depleted the treasury of his country, building extravagant castles and died in mysterious circumstances. Neuschwanstein seems unreal in its romantic Alpine setting and Linderhof is certainly the most elaborate “hunting lodge” you will ever see. This afternoon we’ll arrive into the capital city of Bavaria, Munich and enjoy a panorama city tour seeing many highlights, including the focal point of its historic inner city, the large open square called Marienplatz, where you'll find the Old and New Town Halls. Munich is also famous for its many fine churches, including Peterskirche, the oldest inner city church built during the Romanesque period; the Cathedral of our Lady (Frauenkirche), the city's most famous building; and Michaelskirche, the largest Renaissance church north of the Alps. 

 Munich to Ruedesheim

Enter the lush valleys and pine-clad hills of the BLACK FOREST, famous for cuckoo clocks, where another highlight awaits you: We will be welcomed by a local woodcarver and watch a WOODCARVING DEMONSTRATION, and see samples of his work. Then, enjoy Kaffee (or soda) und Schwarzwaldkuchen (coffee and the traditional homemade Black Forest Cake).

Rhine River Cruise

Today’s highlight is a romantic RHINE CRUISE along the most scenic part of the river, Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its centuries old castles and the storied Lorelei Rock.  The Lorelei Rock is a 194 meter high slate cliff towering above the narrowest point of the Rhine.    It’s celebrated in song and shrouded in legend – one of Germany's top sites.  Tonight we will share one last dinner together before we start to prepare for our journey home.
