JORDAN (pre-Egypt):
Discover the fascinating jewels of Jordan, including its capital, Amman, and the UNESCO-designated “Rose City” of Petra, which was lost for over a thousand years and rediscovered in 1812. We travel north from Amman to the monumental Greaco-Roman Decapolis city of Jerash. South of Amman we stop at Madaba, where the oldest mosaic map of the Holy Land, dating to the 6th century, is displayed on the floor of the Byzantine church. We follow the King’s Highway through the biblical lands of Moab and Edom and make our way to al-Karak Castle, one of the largest crusader castles in the Middle East. We continue to Petra, a marvel long before “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” where we overnight. Following our visit the next morning to the ancient ruins of Petra by entering through the Siq, we follow the Desert Highway to Mt. Nebo, where Moses stood and gazed across the Jordan River to the “Promised Land” and the city of Jericho. Tour dates and details will be sent to you.
ISRAEL & THE HOLY LAND (post-Egypt):
Our visit to Israel and the Holy Land will take us along the “road to Emmaus” to Jerusalem, home to some of the oldest and most holy sites in the world. Our visits with expert guides include the four quarters of the Old City; Temple Mount and Dome of the Rock; the Western or Wailing Wall of Solomon’s Temple; Bethlehem and the shepherd’s fields; the Mount of Olives, Gethsemane, the upper room of the Last Supper; we will go inside the tomb of Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead; the Orson Hyde Memorial Gardens; follow the “Passion Week” sites of the last week of Jesus’ life; to Calvary, site of His crucifixion; and on to the Garden Tomb of His resurrection. En route north to Galilee we visit Masada, a magnificent Herodian mountain fortress once occupied by Jewish zealots under siege by the Roman; Qumran, site of the original Dead Sea Scrolls; and Bethabara, site of the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. In Galilee we visit Capernaum, the Mount of the Beatitudes, the house of Peter, Nazareth, Caesarea Philippi (“Whom do men say that Iam?”), and the Golan Heights. Tour dates and details will be sent to you.
