Departure City/Kansas City/Independence

Depart this morning for Kansas City, MO. Upon arrival, we drive to Independence to visit the LDS Visitor's Center and temple lot--the site where the first temple was commanded to be built in this dispensation. After dinner, we attend a church history devotional given by our historian.

Richmond/Liberty

This morning we drive along the beautiful banks of the Missouri River to Richmond to see the Three Witnesses Monument. Next, we visit Richmond City Cemetery to see the grave of David Whitmer. Following lunch, we travel to the Liberty Jail and Visitor's Center; it was here during the winter of 1838-39 that the Prophet Joseph Smith was imprisoned. Tonight we have the opportunity to attend the Kansas City Temple. (Temple session is optional and subject to temple schedule.)

Richmond/Far West/Adam-ondi-Ahman/Nauvoo

Following breakfast, we drive to Far West to see the temple site. Cornerstones for a temple were laid here in July 1838. Although the Saints were not able to complete the temple, the cornerstone and property remain as a testament of their faith and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our next stop is Adam-ondi-Ahman. Spring Hill was named "Adam-ondi-Ahman" by the Prophet Joseph Smith, as indicated by the Lord in revelation (see D&C 1:16). We then continue to Nauvoo.

Nauvoo

Today we will begin our tour of old Nauvoo with the Joseph Smith Homestead, Mansion House, gravesites of Joseph, Emma, and Hyrum, and the Red Brick Store.  This afternoon we have free time to visit the rest of historic Nauvoo including the Riser Tin Shop, Scovil Bakery, Browning Gun Shop, Times and Seasons Print Shop, John Taylor Home, Brigham Young home and the Family Living Center, to name a few. 

Nauvoo

We begin our day with a session at the Nauvoo Temple. (Attendance at the temple is optional and subject to the temple schedule.) After lunch we will visit the pioneer cemetery and then depart for Carthage. Here we will tour the jail where the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were martyred. This evening we see the production, "Sunset on the Mississippi" and then walk the Trail of Hope and read excerpts from diaries of the Saints who joined the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo in 1846. 

Nauvoo/Hannibal /Home

We say our farewell to Nauvoo and continue to Mark Twain’s Hannibal on the Mississippi River where we’ll take a luncheon cruise on a riverboat. Following lunch, we’ll drive to St. Louis for our evening flight home.
