We invite you to discover the history and delights of Rome, The Eternal City, and surrounding regions on our 7-day escorted tour with host, Roger Manning. This tour includes the highlights of Rome, Florence, and Pompeii, and includes optional attendance at the historic Rome Temple for the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
You will spend all 6 nights in Rome, enjoying the “unpack once” feature while seeing all the major sites we can pack into your tour. We will visit the Roman Colosseum, the Vatican, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain, as well as other special religious sites with the highlight, of course, for those who like time to attend the beautiful new Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Besides Rome, this tour has two special day tours outside the city. We will travel north to Florence, considered the “Cradle of the Renaissance”, an art-lovers dream, and your sightseeing highlights such masterpieces as Michelangelo’s David in the Academy of Fine Arts. We will also enjoy a day in the Naples area seeing the historic Pompeii ruins and enjoying the beautiful scenery of this area that will make a lasting impression on you.

*While the physical activity on this tour (walking distances) is not significant, the days are full of touring from breakfast to dinner time with "down-time" only in the evening. The old stone streets can be challenging to those with mobility issues.

Day 1/2:Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4, 2023
Departure from US - Arrival in Rome
On Saturday we depart our US home cities for an overnight flight to Rome. We will be greeted at the airport by our local tour director who will introduce us to Rome as we make our way to our hotel. Along the way we will enjoy a panoramic tour of the city, seeing many of the historic sites we will be visiting during our visit. We will start exploring the historic sights of the city as we walk the narrow streets of the "old city" to discover the iconic Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, & quaint piazzas such as Piazza Navona. We end our tour at our hotel where we will stay for the length of our tour. Tonight, we will gather together for a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 3: Monday, June 5, 2023
Colosseum, Forum, and Free Afternoon 
Today, we will see some of the highlights of this historic city. After we arrive at the Colosseum grounds, we will walk underneath the Constantine Arch and then enter the huge arena dating from 79AD. Our next stop is the Roman Forum, where the ancient marketplace seems to jump to life as we stroll through the ruins. Back on the coach, we drive past Circus Maximus and the Baths of Caracalla on our way to the Pantheon, built over 2,000 years ago to honor Caesar Augustus and later converted to a Christian church. The afternoon is yours to explore the city at our leisure. The options are endless to maybe revisit one of the many sites that inspired us during our tour or possibly spend the day shopping or trying the many gelato and pizza restaurants the city has to offer.

Day 4: Tuesday, June 6, 2023
Naples & Pompeii Tour 
Today we will take a day trip from Rome to Pompeii, and discover these sights as we listen to a tale of the ancient volcanic eruption before touring Pompeii’s UNESCO-listed archaeological site to see the ruins and monuments that lay buried for centuries. Enjoy panoramic views over Naples and enjoy some free time for shopping and lunch. After some free time, return to Rome.

Day 5: Wednesday, June 7, 2023
Free Day or LDS Rome Temple 
Today is either a free day to explore at your leisure or for those who'd like we will travel outside the "old city" of Rome to the LDS Rome Temple. A session will be booked for those able to attend. Afterward we will return to the hotel to change our clothes and enjoy the day at your pace.

Day 6: Thursday, June 8, 2023
Florence, Italy 
Today we head north to take a break from the bustle of Rome and visit the famous cities of Tuscany on a full-day tour to Florence by speed train. In Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, we will admire artistic masterpieces like Michelangelo’s ‘David’ at the Accademia Gallery and walk beneath Brunelleschi’s famous dome. It’s a beautiful day as we travel through the picturesque Tuscan countryside to make our way back by train to our hotel in Rome.

Day 7: Friday, June 9, 2023
Vatican Tour with free afternoon 
This morning we tour the Vatican, the world's smallest independent state. Our guide provides an overview of the history of the Vatican Museums, with the highlight of the tour being the Sistine Chapel, where the ceiling is covered with Michelangelo's most famous paintings. As the tour continues, we explore St. Peter's Square, with Bernini's 284 columns, before entering St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in Christendom. This afternoon we are free to enjoy the city of Rome on our own. Tonight, we will say "Arrivederci" to Italy and share memories of the trip during a farewell dinner at a local restaurant with music entertainment.
