Day 1-2: Friday/Saturday, Nov 8-9, 2019

U.S.A. • Transatlantic flight to Tel Aviv

Today we start our adventure to the Holy Land. We fly from various home cities to Tel Aviv. We arrive the following day, meet our wonderful new friends at the airport, and transfer to our comfortable hotel for dinner and rest from our travels.

Meals : Dinner
Day 3: Sunday, Nov 10, 2019

Tel Aviv, Valley of Elah, Beer Sheva, The Dead Sea

Today we depart the modern city of Tel Aviv and journey back to the Old Testament. The sites we see today are associated with Father Abraham, Isaac, Sampson, King David, and Lehi. We see the landscape of the foothills of the Judean Mountains (the Shephelah) and the southern desert (Negev). This is a unique day where we visit sites not often seen on standard tours of the Holy Lands. We end the day at the lowest place on earth, swimming in the Dead Sea before dinner.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 4: Monday, Nov 11, 2019

Masada, Qumran, Bathabara, Nazareth

Today is a natural transition from our Old Testament discussions to developments that occurred both “between the Testaments” and during the New Testament period. These sites in the Jordan Valley are classic hotspots for Holy Land tourists as we encounter places associated with the Dead Sea Scrolls, Jesus, and Herod the Great. We ascend by cable car from the desert floor to the spectacular cliff-top fortress of Masada, where a community of 960 Jews preferred death at their own hands to the indignity of surrender to the overwhelming Roman forces. Also, the overlook to the Dead Sea is fantastic from this location. After our return descent by cable car, we make our way north towards Nazareth, the childhood home of Jesus. Along the way we stop by Qasr El Yahud, otherwise known as Bathabara in the New Testament, as the site of His baptism.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 5: Tuesday, Nov 12, 2019

Nazareth, Sepphoris, Mount Arbel, Magdala, Sea of Galilee

We begin our day in Nazareth and Sepphoris where we discuss Jesus’ childhood and what life was like for a Jewish boy in 1st century Galilee. We then follow Jesus into His ministry in the immediate region of Lake Galilee, better known to us as the Sea of Galilee. We see Mary Magdalene’s hometown of Magdala and the ruins of a first century synagogue. We end our day with a sail on Lake Galilee to view the area of Jesus Christ's early ministry. As the wind carries our boat, we can easily visualize the many bible stories set in this important area.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 6: Wednesday, Nov 13, 2019

Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum, Caesarea Philippi

We spend most of this day talking about Jesus’ Galilean ministry while walking in His footsteps at Capernaum. We visit a little-known church nearby to discuss more of Jesus’ activities in the immediate region. Then we travel to Caesarea Philippi, by way of the Golan Heights, where we stop at the border of Syria and discuss a bit of international politics.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 7: Thursday, Nov 14, 2019

Megiddo, Mount Carmel, Caesarea, Jerusalem

Today we leave the fertile valley of the Galilee, travel to the Valley of Armageddon, then into northwest Israel visiting the place associated with Elijah and priests of Baal. We continue on to one of the most impressive ancient manmade port cities, Caesarea on the Mediterranean coast. As we continue on our way to Jerusalem, we visit Trotner Park which provides the most breathtaking view of the distant city, a place where Abraham is believed to have spotted Jerusalem for the first time on his three day journey to sacrifice his son.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 8: Friday, Nov 15, 2019

Mount Zion/Last Supper Room, Israel Museum, and Bethlehem

On our first day in Jerusalem we recount the events of the Last Supper as we visit Mount Zion. We visit an impressive overlook of today’s Jerusalem and visit the Israel Museum to see a model that depicts the Jerusalem of Christ’s time. We then travel to Bethlehem where the music, bells, and churches appropriately adorn this “little town” for it was here that the Light of the World was given life. Near sunset, we gather on Shepherd’s Field where shepherds still tend their flocks, overlooking Bethlehem just as they did over 2,000 years ago when the angel appeared bringing glad tidings of great joy. We sing beloved Christmas hymns and listen to the wondrous story - a moment not to be forgotten. (B, D)

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 9: Saturday, Nov 16, 2019

Kidron Valley, BYU Sacrament, Bethesda, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and The Garden Tomb

Shabbat Shalom is the official greeting of the Sabbath. Today we begin with an early morning walk through the Kidron Valley before returning to the hotel for breakfast, then traveling to the grounds of the BYU Jerusalem Center for Sacrament meeting. After lunch, we enter the Old City and continue to learn of our Savior as we visit the sites of His miracles and last hours as we visit some of the most sacred sites in all of Christendom, including the Garden Tomb.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 10: Sunday, Nov 17, 2019

Temple Steps, Dome of the Rock, Western Wall, Hezekiah’s Tunnel

Today we explore fascinating places in the City of David. We visit places traditionally associated with Jesus’ arrest and the healing of the blind man at the Pool of Siloam. We also visit all the areas around the Temple Mount, including the Western Wall, southern steps, and Dome of the Rock. We conclude the day with the famous Hezekiah’s Tunnel walk.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 11: Monday, Nov 18, 2019

Mount of Olives, Orson Hyde Park, Gethsemane

Very few groups spend an entire day on the Mount of Olives, however today we do. As one of the holiest places on earth, we trace Jesus’ footstep as we recount and discuss His most substantive and meaningful acts and pronouncements during the last week of His life. We visit the Orson Hyde Memorial Garden and review interesting LDS history related to this land. We then enter the Garden of Gethsemane where some of the ancient trees are over 2000 years old and still stand as a testament to the ultimate sacrifice that was made for us here. Tonight we enjoy one last dinner together as we make our way back to Tel Aviv to board our flights home.

Meals : Breakfast, Dinner
Day 12: Tuesday, Nov 19, 2019
