Join Gerrit Dirkmaat  and experience the spirit of Independence, Liberty Jail, Far West, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Nauvoo and Carthage Jail. Catch the vision of the prophet Joseph Smith as you experience the trials, suffering, and triumphs of the Church in Missouri and Illinois, and learn about these remarkable events in Church History. 

Day 1: Monday, June 13, 2022

Departure/Kansas City/Richmond

Depart this morning for Kansas City. Upon arrival, we drive along the beautiful banks of the Missouri River to Richmond to see the Three Witnesses Monument. Next, we visit the Richmond City Cemetery to see the grave site of David Whitmer. After dinner, we attend a church history devotional given by our historian.

Day 2: Tuesday, June 14, 2022

Independence/Liberty

This morning we drive to Independence to visit the LDS Visitor's Center and temple lot--the site where the first temple was commanded to be built in this dispensation. Following lunch, we travel to the Liberty Jail and Visitor's Center; it was here during the winter of 1838-39 that the Prophet Joseph Smith was imprisoned. Tonight, we have the opportunity to attend the Kansas City Temple. (Temple session is optional and subject to temple schedule.)

Day 3: Wednesday, June 15, 2022

Far West/Adam-Ondi-Ahman/Nauvoo

Following breakfast, we drive to Far West to see the temple site. cornerstones for a temple were laid here in July 1838. Although the Saints were not able to complete the temple, the cornerstones and property remain as a testament of their faith and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our next stop is Adam-ondi-Ahman. Spring hill was named "Adam-ondi-Ahman" by the Prophet Joseph Smith, as indicated by the Lord in revelation (see D&C 1:16) We then continue to Nauvoo.

Day 4: Thursday, June 16, 2022

Nauvoo

Today we begin our tour of old Nauvoo with the Joseph Smith Homestead, Mansion House, gravesites of Joseph and Emma, and Hyrum, and the Red Brick Store. This afternoon we have free time to visit the rest of historic Nauvoo including the Riser Tin shop, Times and Seasons Print Shop, John Taylor home, Brigham Young home, and the Family Living Center, to name a few.

Day 5: Friday, June 17, 2022

Nauvoo/Carthage

We begin our day with a session at the Nauvoo Temple, with opportunities for the youth to do baptisms. (The temple visit is optional and subject to the temple schedule.) After lunch, we visit the pioneer cemetery and then depart for Carthage. Here we tour the jail where the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum, were martyred. This evening we see the production of "Sunset on the Mississippi", and then walk the Trail of Hope reading excerpts from diaries of the Saints who joined the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo in 1846.

Day 6: Saturday, June 18, 2022

Hannibal/St. Louis

We say our farewell to Nauvoo and continue to Mark Twain's Hannibal on the Mississippi River where we take a luncheon cruise on a riverboat. Following lunch, we drive to St. Louis for our evening flight home.
