Depart the US and arrive Munich

We will depart the US on Tuesday, June 14th and fly over to Munich, Germany.  When we arrive in Munich on June 15th, our tour manager will meet us at the airport for our transfer to the hotel.  He will give us a panoramic tour of the area to get acquainted with the city that is called Germany’s “Secret Capital”.  After a lunch stop we will arrive at our hotel to rest from our travels.  Tonight we will gather together for a welcome dinner so we can all get to know each other and talk about the exciting sites ahead of us. 

Tour Munich

Today as we depart the hotel we will see the city come alive.  Our first stop will be to the Olympic Stadium to tour the site of the 1972 games.  We will ride the elevator to the top of Olympic Tower and look down at Munich from 190 meters up!  From here you will be able to not only have beautiful aerial view of the city but, if the weather is good, you can see all the way to the Alps!  After a lunch stop, we will have a walking tour of the city center.  Originally surrounded by a series of Medieval walls, you still enter Old Town through the mighty city gates.  Once inside you’ll experience great shopping mixed in with historic beers halls, amazing museums, and even a royal palace.  The Bavarian atmosphere is very predominate everywhere you turn, which adds to the fun.   Afterwards the time is your to keep exploring or return to the hotel with the bus. 

Oberammergau, Neuschwanstein

Today is full of magic, history and beauty! As we depart the bustling city of Munich and into the Bavarian hill side, we’ll visit the fairy tale castle in Neuschwanstein - the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland. We’ll continue into the countryside to visit the medieval town of Oberammergau and witness our performance of Christs Passion Play that’s been going on since 1634 after they made a vow with God to spare the town from the plague. 

Tour of the City of Innsbruck

We depart this morning and continue into the Alps to the picturesque town of Innsbruck and spend the day exploring this impressive city.  Set amongst the gorgeous Nordkette mountain range, Innsbruck has been home to two Winter Olympics Games and is still the location for many major sporting and cultural events. It offers a range of historical sights, scenic vistas and Olympic attractions, as well as charming boutiques and atmosphere.  

Our tour will include the Imperial Apartments at the Royal Palace and the historic Court Church, a gothic church in the Old Town section of Innsbruck built in 1553 that holds a remarkable collection of German Renaissance sculptures. 

Berchtesgaden tour while traveling to Salzburg

Today we travel east to Austria!  While we enjoy the majestic scenery during our restful commute we will learn more about the history of this region, especially as we make a stop in Berchtesgaden, home of the German Reichskanziel during WWII.  We’ll visit the “Eagles Nest”, a gift to Hitler on his 50th birthday. Settled atop a ridge on the Kehlstein Mountain, it is now a beautiful scenic stop. We finish our journey today in Salzburg.  

Tour Salzburg

Well rested from our travel day, we have a full day of sites and history ready for you today.  We start with a walking tour Salzburg where we’ll see the garden of Mirabell (a Sound of Music sight), the house where Mozart was raised, as well as the house where he was born on the shopping street of Getreidegasse.  We’ll continue to the Salzburg Dome Cathedral, St Peters Monastery, and Residenz Square where some of the scenes from the Sound of music were filmed, along with other important sights in the city.

This afternoon after a lunch stop we will board the bus to travel the country side seeing many sights made famous by the Sound of Music movie including Schloss Leopoldskron, the Trapp family home, Hellbrunn Gardens to the gazebo and the original Villa Trapp, where the family really lived from 1923-1928.  Tonight after dinner we will return to Marabell Palace for a Mozart concert. 

Mondsee, Melk to Vienna      

Today we continue our Sound of Music exploration as we depart Salzburg to visit the town of Mondsee-- sitting on the shore of a lake and the home of the Abbey used for the wedding church in the movie.   We then continue to Melk to visit the world famous Abbey which crowns a rocky bluff overlooking the Danube more than 150 ft above the river.  It is known as the highest achievement of the Baroque style of architecture in Austria.  We are then off to Vienna for dinner and our overnight.   

Day touring in Vienna

Today we start with a panoramic city tour learning about its history and significant home, government buildings and palaces.  We’ll enjoy a guide tour of Schoenbrunn Palace.  This magnificent focus of court life during its prime was originally commissioned to be a hunting lodge.  Today this magnificent palace is still a place of political influence.  Our tour will encounter 40 different rooms throughout that will bring its history alive for us.  

This afternoon we will tour The Hofburg Palace including the imperial apartments, the Sisi Museum and see the Imperial Silver Collection. 

Vienna with Return flight home

This morning after breakfast we will make our back to the Vienna airport for our flights home with full hearts and memories to last a life time.
